An Eau Claire man is in custody following a chase and the death of a woman who lived with him.
Eau Claire Police news release:
On Friday, August 22, 2014, the Eau Claire Police Department assisted the Chippewa County
Sheriff's Office and Bloomer Police Department with a vehicle pursuit that entered the City of
Eau Claire shortly after 1:30 a.m. The driver continued until stopping in front of his residence at
821 Harris Street in the City of Eau Claire. The driver, Thomas C. Biesterveld, was subsequently
arrested at that time for Operating While Intoxicated (1st Offense), Knowingly Fleeing an
Officer, Endangering Safety by use of a Dangerous Weapon and Armed with a Weapon While
Intoxicated. Biesterveld was transported to the Chippewa County Jail.
During the follow up investigation, information was gathered indicating that neighbors had heard
a loud sound similar to a gunshot earlier that evening. Additional information also identified that
another adult lived in the residence with Thomas Biesterveld. Eau Claire Police Officers then
located a deceased adult female at the residence. The Eau Claire Police Department Detective
Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to continue the investigation and process the scene. A
forensic autopsy is being conducted to identify the cause and manner of death. This case remains
under investigation by the Eau Claire Police Department. It is not believed that the public is in
