A cool, stormy start to Sunday led to a smaller, quieter "FATFAR" annual tube float this year.
The event, which has drawn several thousand participants in the past was expected to draw tubers in the hundreds yesterday to float downt the Chippewa River from Chippewa Falls. The Chippewa Falls Police Department issued a high water warning and tried to encourage floaters to stay off the river, or at least to be cautious. Lake Hallie Police say the low turnout led to a quieter day for officers patrolling near one of the spots where bars host parties for tubers ending their float. Two Waters Bar and the Hallie Sportsman's club again hosted an exit point. There was a total of 18 law enforcement citations - one more than last year, but far fewer than around 40 issued in 2011 and 2012, when officers say the crowds were much bigger. Most citations were for underaged drinking and disorderly behavior - drawing 6 citations each. There was one charge of Battery to a Police Officer.
