HOLIDAY SPENDING TO DIVE _ Last year consumers spent an average of $786 on holiday gifts, but if the latest poll from Gallup is correct they'll be sitting on the wallets this year. Americans say they plan to spend an average of $704 on holiday giving this year. At the same time last year American consumers planned to spend $770 and ended up spending a bit more. Retailers can only hope that the pattern repeats itself this year.

BRIDE AND GROOM HANDCUFFED _ Police were called out to a wedding reception in Russia after a stunt went wrong. A magician at the reception had handcuffed the couple together as part of a trick -- and then couldn't free them.

According to an annual study on Thanksgiving prices, it'll cost you $49.04 to serve Thanksgiving dinner this year.  And that's for TEN people, so . . . less than $5 per person.  And that includes turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, butter, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. 

On Tuesday, passengers on a Southwest flight from Tampa to Raleigh thought they were about to DIE when the pilot got on the P.A. and said they were "GOING DOWN."  But it turned out he just needed to descend to 10,000 feet because of a slight drop in cabin pressure, and they were never in danger of crashing.

U.S. Airways kicked a BLIND GUY off a flight, because his dog wouldn't stay completely under the seat in front of him while they were taxing to the runway.  So a bunch of other passengers ALSO got off the plane in PROTEST. 

It's not even a word! The top "word" of the year is "404," according to the 14th annual survey of global English, conducted by the Global Language Monitor. "404" is the near-universal numeric code for failure on the global Internet, augmenting its original use as "page not found."
