  • A high-end restaurant in New York is offering the city's priciest plate of pasta -- a $2,000 dish of homemade tagliolini complete with fresh lobster and black truffles and served on a gold-leaf platter designed by late fashion icon Gianni Versace. The $2,013 dish features two pounds of wild-caught lobster and sauteed organic vegetables.
  • Health authorities are warning again that this is going to be a really bad winter for the flu. [Which means that it's going to be a really great winter for Netflix.] 
  • WOMEN ADMIT BUYING KNOCKOFFS _ A new survey reveals women have no problem buying knockoffs. Three-quarters of women questioned in the poll admitted that they had knowingly purchased a counterfeit designer fashion item, and many said they had as many as five fake dresses, handbags, wallets, jewelry or pairs of shoes. 
  • NEED A SMARTPHONE WITH A REALLY BIG SCREEN? _ At the Consumer Electronics Show, a Chinese phone maker (Huawei) has show off the Ascend Mate -- a smartphone with a 6.1-inch display.
  • THIEF GETS MOUTH FULL OF RAW SEWAGE _ In the UK, a thief tried to siphon fuel from a camper van but got a mouthful of raw sewage. The would-be robber missed the fuel tank in the dark and put a tube into the van's septic tank by mistake. And after sucking up the foul-smelling waste, he threw up on the spot and fled.
  • An Oregon man bought a $27,000 bottle of Scotch. [He's saving it for one of those nights when he sits around drinking in his nice sweatpants.] 
  • In a Penn State study, women rated "playful" and "fun-loving" as highly desirable qualities in men more than good looks and intelligence.
  • There's a new free Facebook app that can help you figure out which one of your friends gave you the FLU.  It analyzes your friends' profiles for words in status updates that could hint at who's sick, and reports back to you.  You can install the app at facebook.com/HelpRemedies
  • Breaking News:  Congress is unpopular!  I know, shocking.  A new survey had people compare Congress to other notorious things, to figure out just how unpopular they are.  And Congress was less popular than lice, root canals, NICKELBACK, colonoscopies, and France . . . but more popular than telemarketers, the KARDASHIANS, North Korea, meth labs, communism, and gonorrhea.
  • In China, a father was upset that his son was obsessed with online role-playing games like "World of Warcraft".  So he hired a HITMAN . . . to kill his son's online gaming character every time he logged on.  And the plan actually worked.  The son got discouraged with the games, and ended up having an honest dialogue with his father about his future plans and career outlook.
  • A 73-year-old woman in Washington just bought a new furnace, but her house wasn't getting warm.  So she called a repairman who found the problem.  There was a STRANGER living UNDERNEATH the woman's house, and he'd messed with the ducts to redirect them and keep himself warm.  The guy hasn't been back since, and the woman had to pay $500 to get the ducts fixed.
