Thorp

Our first destination on our 3rd Meet Your Neighbors Friday was Thorp.  Stop number one was the famous Thorpedo!  We stopped by and took some photos, but didn't have time to have a meal.  We hope to come back and try it sometime!  Then we went to Nolechek's Meats where Alex had a hard time making up his mind on what kind of meat he wanted to buy!  He ended up buying some chicken breasts and said they were very delicious!  After buying meat, we wanted DESSERT!  So we went to Sweet Memories Bakery where Becky has the cutest bakery FILLED with something for everyone!  We were lucky enough to get to try the apple fritter and raspberry filled frosted donut, SO yummy!  The bakery smelled so good like cake and cinnamon, and Becky even had us sign her wall!

Also while in Thorp, we stopped at Holland's Family Cheese.  Chris greeted us and took us on a thorough tour of the facility and explained a lot about making Gouda cheese.  It was interesting to see all of the different varieties waiting to mature.  After learning about the different types of Gouda, we got to taste them!  One of our favorites was the Marieke Gouda Burning Melange.  Chives, dried onion, celery, garlic, and parsley make up this cheese, but the cool part was that it was also made with stinging nettle!  After our tastings, we met Marieke and Rolf Penterman, owners of the cheese factory and farm.  The showed us around the barns and we even got to see a baby calf that was only 1 hour old!
