Airstaff: Erik Austin

Erik Austin

Erik Austin is an Eau Claire native and is currently in his 10th year on-air at WAXX. An avid supporter of country music, with a zealous thirst for new and "impacting now" songs. Erik's favorite artists are a pantheon of legends - Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, and Tim McGraw top the list along with those well on their way, such as Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean and Jake Owen.

With a longtime childhood dream to actually BE one of these legends performing onstage likely never becoming reality, Erik is passionate about vocals and the ever-amazing electric guitar. His passion for other-worldly guitar work fuels his love for Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour, Keith Urban, Trey Anastasio, Eddie Van Halen, and Duane Allman. From the moment he saw the video for Van Halen's "Jump" on MTV at the age of 6, this music thing has been the dream. Phish, The Black Crowes, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Buffett, Dave Matthews, The Allman Brothers, Fleetwood Mac and Van Halen have made him who he is.

Erik is also a very proud Wisconsinite when it comes to supporting the local teams. He played four sports at Eau Claire North and attended the University of Alabama, so athletics have always been his thing. His family has had season tickets for Wisconsin Badger football and the Green Bay Packers for nearly 20 years. He's missed only a handful of games in Madison since 1993, and usually attends one or two games at Lambeau Field a year.

Traveling and a love for nature are also major influences in his life. With his beautiful girlfriend Jenny at his side, the couple has been fortunate enough to spend two spectacular weeks in St. Lucia and Jamaica in the past two years. They recently returned from 10 nights in a tent exploring wine country and the High Sierra of California, visiting Napa and Sonoma counties and hiking in Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, and the couple's favorite - Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior - have all been crossed off the list in the past 3 years.

Erik loves his main job as a beer truck driver for Budweiser and Park Ridge Distributing in Eau Claire. Give a wave and a smile to your local Bud Man when you're out-and-about!

KEEP ROCKIN'.

The Big Question

With Old Man winter and his army looming...What is the most difficult thing about winter?
Winter Driving
Shoveling
Alternate Parking
Scheduling for school closings
Keeping your inner Jack Nicholson at bay through the dark months
